1. to be more or greater than: »

The sum of five and seven exceeds ten. To lift a heavy trunk exceeds a child's strength.

2. to do more than; go beyond: »

Drivers are not supposed to exceed the speed limit.

3. to surpass; outdo; be superior to: »

The honor student exceeded all his classmates.

4. Archaic. a) to pass out of (boundaries). b) to project beyond.
